On 1st June 2019, Liverpool Football Club beat Tottenham Hotspurs 2-0 in Madrid, winning the UEFA Champions League. This represents Liverpool’s 6th European Cup, with only Real Madrid and AC Milan having won the honour more times. It was an incredible achievement and a suitable reward for a season in which they came only 1 point away from winning the Premier League. When you look at Liverpool this season, it’s easy to see an incredible “togetherness” of the squad – a team of highly skilled individuals operating around a common goal, passionately working for each other.
I was recently shortlisted for a Data Leader of the Year award from DataIQ – it’s an incredible honour, and I’m immensely grateful to the judges for shortlisting me. However, I’m very aware that there’s no way I’d be shortlisted for such an award without the amazing team of Data Scientists and Data Engineers at Mango that I’m privileged to work with on a daily basis. For the last 16 years, my business partner and I have been building a highly skilled team capable of delivering data-led value, and I’m continually delighted by the passion and dedication shown by this amazing group of people.
This team of over 35 amazing Data Science and Data Engineer professionals, with a combined total of over 200 years of commercial experience, can achieve amazing things. As I write this, this team is currently engaged in a range of projects from helping a major retailer build a world-class data science capability, helping a traditional insurance transform to a data-driven organisation, helping the UK Government to modernise their analytic platforms and workflows, building a next-best-action engine for a major financial organisation, advising a government department on their data strategy, and contributing to open source projects.
So, I just wanted to say a huge thank you to the team and thank them for their passion and excellence – I’m incredibly proud to be able to work with you all.
